New FEMA Flood Insurance Maps for New Jersey

In December, FEMA engineers released new flood insurance maps that significantly change the flood plains in New York and New Jersey. In January, Gov. Chris Christie adopted the new maps, meaning that homeowners and businesses repairing substantial damage along the shore must elevate their properties or face five-figure insurance premiums.
The New York Times has provided an interactive map that: (1) demonstrates the changes in minimum first floor elevations now required of property owners; (2) highlights the new flood zones based on the level of expected flooding and wave action; and (3) shows damage reports for eight different beach communities.
